A reference specifically for busy General Practitioners, Physiotherapists, Nurses and other medical professionals

I am recognized as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon by all the major healthcare insurance companies (BUPA, BUPA International, AXA PPP, WPA, Norwich Union Aviva, Standard Life, Medisure, Pruhealth, Saga, Cigna etc.)

As a Consultant Surgeon I am able to provide diagnostic services in addition to day case and inpatient surgical treatment.

It is always prudent to check what your insurance policy will contribute to funding your care - before incurring any costs for which you will be liable. For example some policies have annual limits for outpatient fees or exclude the provision of orthotics. Many policies have not kept up with the costs of modern surgery and anaesthesia.

Increasingly patients without private medical insurance are opting to fund their own medical treatment. Following an initial consultation and subsequent investigations, a diagnosis will be made and a management plan formulated. Based on this plan a fixed price cost for any inpatient surgical treatment may be provided.

In general private hospitals and clinics will require payment in full before treatment is provided. Patients are personally liable for any shortfall between the amount an insurer offers to contribute and the outstanding invoice.

The Federation of Independent Practitioner Organizations (FIPO) produces a document outlining the important principles governing the provision of medical care under private medical insurance. Please download a copy and review this against your insurance provision.
