Multiligament Injuries ACL+
NB. The description of "ACL+" injuries is my own notation and not generally accepted.
Combined ACL and MCL injuries
The MCL and the ACL share the stabilization of the medial compartment and are often injured together. For a valgus stress the MCL is the primary restraint and once ruptured the forces acts on the ACL which is the secondary restraint.
Diagnosis can be difficult in the acute setting due to pain and all cases with grade III MCL rupture should be suspected of having an ACL rupture until proved otherwise, by MRI scanning.
